STUDIOCANAL is a subsidiary of the CANAL+ Group. It is one of Europe's leading companies in the market for co-production, acquisition and distribution of international feature films on all types of media: cinemas, video, broadcasting and video on demand. STUDIOCANAL is the only studio that operates simultaneously in three main territories across Europe: France, the United Kingdom and Germany. The company distributes a total of more than 50 films a year throughout Europe. STUDIOCANAL also operates in Australia and New Zealand since the acquisition of Hoyts Distribution in July 2012.
In Germany, STUDIOCANAL is a leading independent film company and a key player in theatrical distribution, the video market, film production and international & domestic TV and new media sales.
The German subsidiary of STUDIOCANAL is the successor of KINOWELT (established 1984). It represents a library of more than 7,000 titles in German-speaking Europe and has established ARTHAUS, the leading consumer brand for art-house films in German-speaking Europe.
Since September 2011, the German operations of STUDIOCANAL are based in Berlin.
