„Reverse Angle“ sold to US along with 20 „Filmverlag“ and Alexander Kluge titles
KINOWELT International, the world sales outfit of the Leipzig-based KINOWELT group, has announced its first signings on this year’s European Film Market (EFM).
“Reverse Angle – Rebellion of the Filmmakers”, the critically acclaimed documentary about famed german filmmakers like Fassbinder, Wenders and Herzog and the legendary “Filmverlag der Autoren” was sold to Facets for the USA. The movie of producer Rainer Koelmel and director Dominik Wessely celebrated its world premiere on Monday with 1,000 enthusiastic spectators attending in the Berliner Zoo-Palast. Facets also took US rights for 20 titles of the “Filmverlag”, a company which defined german cinema since its founding in the late 1960s.
Coming from the same heritage, a collection of sixteen Alexander Kluge feature films along with 30 of his famous shorts was also picked up by Facets for the US and Sherlock for Spain. Sherlock also bought Spanish rights for Rudolf Thome’s latest feature, the Hannelore Elsner starrer “The Visibile And The Invisible” and Peter Sehr’s “Obession” with Daniel Craig. The latter was also sold to the Middle East while Geoffrey Enthoven’s comedy “The Only One” was bought for the Russian market.
Stelios Ziannis, head of world sales at KINOWELT International comments: “We are currently negotiating more deals with distributors in the USA, Europa and the Far East. Especially our movies about the german years of terrorism and the Baader Meinhof gang have aroused interest among buyers.”
